I love the softness of your tone, the honesty--"like butter left at room temperature".

I wonder about maturation (of which motherhood forms a part, it seems, at least in your case). If maturation dissolves, along with some youthful cleverness, some of youth's ego defenses--the striving after cleverness--what does it leave intact? More, what is in us that might function even better after a bit of softening? Will we learn to see simplicity within things? Will we learn, finally, to accept some of those squishy truths--"Love never fails" and all that--that always sounded too stupid to satisfy us?

Or will we just go on making metaphors, artful sentences, as best as we can--though we feel ourselves caught up in the flow of swifter droplets?Carlnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5433737900615794405.post-33970234941165903242020-12-06T11:44:19.145-08:002020-12-06T11:44:19.145-08:00brilliant. you captured it. definitely sharing wit...brilliant. you captured it. definitely sharing with the many new moms I know!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01699117849242961098noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5433737900615794405.post-39014972816269191222017-11-13T00:19:35.993-08:002017-11-13T00:19:35.993-08:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Bloggerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07287821785570247118noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5433737900615794405.post-74509680102524520062017-11-10T19:14:03.266-08:002017-11-10T19:14:03.266-08:00Lindsay! It haunts me, that play.

If I may offer an alternative from our collective heritage's view of death, the view of my wise ass shrink: there is no such thing as death, at least not as we imagine it. I'm not there yet but I like trying to understand that idea deep in my skinny hebe belly. Maybe this type of fear is genetic. Sometimes I think Mimi feels this, even though I've never spoken with her about it.

It wasn't until the past couple of years that I started to make the same ironic conclusion that you make here. Toby is constantly talking about how today's futurists think we're going to live forever, or at least for a very, very, very long time. This is Toby's dream. For me, it's so fucking anxiety producing that I must change the conversation after 10 minutes. For so long, I thought I feared death..."existing" forever in total nothingness. But that's not death. When it's late at night and I start to panic about the idea of death, the idea of not existing, I now try and remind myself...it sounds so much worse to to exist forever.

justbecuzzinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16572280552005566216noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5433737900615794405.post-50559767421357551442017-02-25T17:21:26.909-08:002017-02-25T17:21:26.909-08:00This is wonderful, Lindsay, evocative and precise....This is wonderful, Lindsay, evocative and precise.

Texture is about bodily contact, an intimacy with the outside world.

The problem with writing (a problem which never goes away, not entirely) is that it connects us to the world through words, immaterial ideas. In other words, writing conveys to us the world's "outside".

The "inside" of the world, like the inside of our bodies, is unknown and icky. But it fascinates you, and you find your way into it with your words.Carlhttp://dancebeardance.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5433737900615794405.post-27214889998790122792017-02-06T09:05:13.102-08:002017-02-06T09:05:13.102-08:00Why yes! Put a plate or a lid of some sort over the bowl, leave them soaking for 8 – 12 hours.

Then strain and rinse the walnuts, and spread them out on a baking sheet. Sometimes I add rosemary or orange peel or other random things to the baking sheet. Put them in the oven at the lowest temperature possible, I usually do like 200 degrees. Leave them there until they are fully dehydrated, which can vary widely depending on how hot your oven is, but for me this usually takes 8 hours or so. The first time you make them you should do it on a day you plan to be home so you can check them every few hours, and once you know how long it takes you can leave them overnight or when you're at work or whatever. I happened upon the apology linked to ...THANK YOU!

I happened upon the apology linked to from an article on Cracked (where the book was referred to as 'psychotic') and it infuriated me. Because, basically, of everything you've said here. It was such a relief to see all this articulated by a woman.

I actually found your piece Googling for Kickstarter projects designed to help women attract men. Didn't find any, but I'm glad I found this instead.

You should send a link to Kickstarter and demand a response.

If you get nothing, then demand to know why the knee-jerk reaction to a blog written by a man that took quotes out of context, but no reaction to a blog written by a woman who actually thought it through and spoke from experience.

Really, this piece needs to be seen. Good work. Take it further.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5433737900615794405.post-19847779160157899702013-12-06T07:18:38.503-08:002013-12-06T07:18:38.503-08:00This comment has been hidden from the blog.Lindsay Meiselhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17250501133788792507noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5433737900615794405.post-55951918344988671112013-12-04T20:50:07.183-08:002013-12-04T20:50:07.183-08:00This comment has been hidden from the blog.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5433737900615794405.post-88141445899813469562013-12-04T15:45:29.076-08:002013-12-04T15:45:29.076-08:00This comment has been hidden from the blog.Lindsay Meiselhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17250501133788792507noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5433737900615794405.post-11053784593535757582013-12-04T15:22:08.683-08:002013-12-04T15:22:08.683-08:00This comment has been hidden from the blog.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5433737900615794405.post-73104359958114611222013-11-07T09:44:15.802-08:002013-11-07T09:44:15.802-08:00Well written and very thought provoking article.
